SDMS Simplex Training and Learning Manager for Business is designed specifically for Training Managers, combining Training Administration, Training Evaluation with Appraisal and Training Needs modules. SDMS Simplex will enable Small and Medium Size Enterprises (SMEs) to meet their requirements to deliver, record and plan employee training and keep track of Appraisal to support the HR elements of the business plan and external accountabilities.
Full Course Management and Administration
Training courses and activities can be recorded whether in-house or external, with details on the type of activity, training subject area, organiser, provider and summary of the course entered. Further details of when the course is running with closing dates can be entered. Costs can be recorded for the activity as a whole and also costs of training can be recorded for individual staff. Cost categories are user definable. These are used to enable businesses to closely control staff development and training budgets.
Details of enrolments with acceptance, waiting lists, application date and approval can be recorded simply and easily.
Application for External Courses
When recording and scheduling training, it can often be the case that you would be entering details for a persons training for an activity that is not yet in the system. It can be a slightly long-winded process to go into the activity screen and create a new activity, then an event and finally enrol the person onto it when you only need to record the details for a single person. With this in mind, the Individual Training Activity screen is provided as a quick entry method to record training. All details of the enrolment, including the activity, event, person and costs can all be entered on this single screen.
This screen would be most useful in cases where a person has applied for an external course and you want to quickly record the details without going through the full process used when enrolling multiple people onto a course.

Entering Training Costs for External or In House Courses
Whether you are running courses in house or approving staff to attend external courses keeping training of costs is critical to getting the best out of your staff development and training budget. Simplex allows you to record both event costs such as course fees and person costs such as subsistence or travel. Event costs are costs that are specific to the course, such as course fees, room hire, or more broadly costs that are paid once for the course. Person costs are those that are paid for each person taking the course such as travel fees or subsistence.
In the screen above the Event Costs button will open the Costs Spreadsheet screen where a detailed breakdown of costs can be entered in each of the categories - similarly, the person costs button enables you to record costs for people attending couses or in house events.

Each of the different cost categories can have any number of specific cost items. The user would click the appropriate cell in the spreadsheet, whether actual or estimate and for the correct term or quarter, and then can enter the individual payments for the selected category as shown above. When entering the cost details, the values on the spreadsheet will automatically update and the totals for the term/quarter and for the year will be recalculated.
Where the total cost entered into the Actual column exceeds the cost in the Estimate column, the figure will be highlighted in red to make this obvious to the user which can be an effective way to help manage the training budget.
Training Evaluations
Course Evaluation Questionnaires can be set up and Staff responses to the quality and usefulness of training recorded and analysed to support effective staff development monitoring. Delegate evaluation reports include Forms Received and missing Evaluation Forms.
Appraisal and Training Needs
SDMS Simplex allows you to set up and schedule a range of Appraisal meetings from initial Focus or Agenda setting meetings, through assessments and workplace observations to formal appraisal interviews. Dates, times and those involved can all be logged and for each key element of appraisal such as observations, detailed summaries can be held. Agreed appraisal targets and actions can be recorded, assigned a weighting and priority to aid ongoing development and follow up. SDMS Simplex supports the management of appraiser-appraisee pairings with the ability to assign multiple appraisers in each appraisal.
Staff Details, Qualifications, Skills and Training History
Personnel information is held for all Staff including names, addresses, telephone numbers, gender and ethnicity. Training histories and records are maintained for all employees and automatically updated as they apply for and attend training events. A full employee profile of competencies, qualifications and skills can be held, along with their job assignment. A standard data import allows key data of staff reference, type of staff and name to be imported from other Systems.
Powerful Reporting is Standard
Standard reports built into SDMS Simplex enable the user to analyse training events, training evaluation, appraisals and equal opportunities. SDMS Simplex integrates with Microsoft Office™ to enable the user to take advantage of elements within the Office range. Microsoft Word™ can receive the formatted reports from SDMS Simplex, which can then be incorporated with other documents or be amended before printing. Data can also be output to Microsoft Excel™ so that the user can perform analysis of the data to improve Businessl Review and Development planning.
