Integration Module for SDMS V Staff Development and e-Learning Platforms

e-Learning and SDMS-Blended Learning Delivery

SDMS V e-Learning Connect provides integration between the extensive Training Management functions of SDMS V Staff Development for Windows and e-Learning Platforms.

The delivery of the most effective learning experiences usually requires a range of modes of Learning and Training Provision tailored to the nature of the training and the preferences and learning styles of Trainees. This will include face to face Tutor Led Courses and Workshops, On the Job Coaching, Reading, Reflexion Learning and e-Learning - the modern form of CBT (Computer Based Training). SDMS V Staff Development with its e-Learning Connect Module allows all of these to be planned and managed in a single Learning Management System.

Combinations

Research amongst SDMS Users demonstrates clearly that they are looking for a single system which deals with the day to day practicalities of face to face traditional training as well as the benefits of e-Learning and provides them with a single view of all Training and Learning. Typically our users experience e-Learning and LMS which do not address adequately the need to set up and run traditional Training Courses, Workshops and Conferences in rooms with Trainers. And similarly, they experience Training Administration Systems which do not link with e-Learning or support more individualised learning styles.

SDMS V e-Learning Connect overcomes these limitations by bringing together the Staff Development functions of SDMS V Staff Development and leading e-Learning Systems.

e-Learning

With the need to provide effective Training while seeking to reduce the removal of Staff from the workplace or to maximise the benefits of Training Budgets, e-Learning is increasingly becoming part of the quality mix. Typically e-Learning platforms allow Employees and Service Partners to take Courses or learn over the Internet or Intranet from any place and at any time. Such platforms typically offer a range of services – repurchased standard On Line Courses (H & S), the ability to upload SCORM complaint materials and Consultancy and Training to help e-Learning Customers translate their own Training materials into e-Learning packages. With Courses created On-line Students have access to Training Resources and Set Lessons related to the Course. Successful learning is demonstrated through a series of assessments and tests. SDMS V e-Learning Connect brings e-Learning and the Training Management functions of SDMS into a single System.

e-Learning to SDMS Integration

SDMS V e-Learning Connect is an Optional Module which provides integration between an e-Learning platform and SDMS V Staff Development for Windows. Where the Customer is using SDMS V e-Training, the e-Learning lesson can be accessed via the Employee Self Serve functions directly. The integration process is implemented via a set of Data Exports and Imports which can be scheduled to take place at any time or frequency.

Data on e-Learning Courses and Enrolments is exported from the e-Learning product in a text file (either CSV or XML format) which is then imported into SDMS V Staff Development via a process of importing which translates the e-Learning data into data required by SDMS. User IDs in the e-Learning platform are translated into SDMS Unique Employee References.

Further translations ensure that the imported data is matched correctly against the correct records in SDMS Software. Along with Course and Enrolment data, the e-Learning User IDs and Passwords are brought into SDMS. This will allow the Automatic Login and Enrolment for Staff browsing Courses on SDMS V e-Training for Windows.

A more restricted option is also provided which simply allows the Employee Training Record from the e-Learning platform to be imported rather than the full profile of Courses.

A Full Profile of Training and Learning

SDMS V Staff Development for Windows training records can be held for all Training Enrolments, Training History and Self Study. The integration with E-Learning databases brings this data together with E-Learning Training Details providing a complete profile of Employee Training from the Corporate viewpoint. Rather than having to report on multiple Systems; all reporting can be done within SDMS V Staff Development. Through the use of over 600 standard reports, the data can be analysed to yield comprehensive performance reports to assist Organisations in evaluating the Staff Development provided to Employees as well as producing information required for Management decision making.

SDMS V e-Training and e-Learning

SDMS V e-Training provides Employee Self Serve allowing Employees or other Registered Users to search Courses offered by subject and availability and then view such details of the Course as Scope, Programme and Trainers. Having found Courses relevant to their needs they can apply On Line, subject to approval by their Line Manager or Funder. When approval is confirmed they are sent confirmation by email. In addition they may view their own Training History including Self Study and Personnel details.

With the SDMS V e-Learning Connect integration with e-Training all Courses, whether entered in SDMS Software or e-Learning can be accessed by Staff from the e-Training. This is facilitated by the process whereby the e-Learning Platform User ID and Password are imported into SDMS and matched to a Staff Record and therefore the person only has to log into e-Training. They are then automatically logged in and onto any Course they select from the e-Training browse list – such as an e-Learning Event. Because the e-Learning Courses are deployed over the Web Staff can take the Course from anywhere they have access to the Internet.

Towards Learning Management - Training and Learning

Using SDMS V Staff Development for Windows and e-Training with e-Learning to plan manage and deliver Training and Learning, provides a major Learning Management System. It offers a range of tools whether in the Windows “Back Office”, e-Training or the e-Learning System which enables the focus of attention to be placed on the Learner and the most appropriate to deliver effective learning.

Using e-Learning to deliver Training to Staff, especially for Internal Training where many people will have to take the same Course in key business areas, may reduce the per capita cost of Training substantially as a component of an overall learning strategy. Where you would normally arrange several sessions, possibly with a small group of Staff being trained each time, a single Course incorporating the expertise of the Organisation can be designed and delivered through the e-Learning System for everyone to take. Often e-Learning delivery can provide a useful Pre-course and Assessment before the investment of time and £ in a week long External Course. Additionally its role might be part of a follow on learning process after such a Course.

Standard or Customised

There are many e-Learning Systems on the market today ranging from propriety Systems to open source products such as Moodle. SDMS V e-Learning Connect provides integration with a wide range of these Systems by providing integration templates for Activity - Event - Enrolment or Training History Integration. Where your e-Learning Platform cannot export data in the form or format required by such templates; SDMS Ltd provides a range of Bespoke Development to support your integration.
